From global village to global jungle?

Rather than shrinking the world, globalization expands it. It does not make the world one, it breeds multiple worlds. Absorbing the nation-state in a global network of mega-cities, it does not bring about world government, but scatters power. It suspends history, completes modernity, and opens a new era that may be dark and dangerous, but also delightful and sublime.

Globalization touches almost every aspect of life, but its impact is only really noticed when there are financial crises. It spurs the flow of money, information, and migrants, but also dissent against the change it wreaks. We all win, and lose.

There is little agreement about the benefits of globalization, and many competing ideas about its long term impact. However, to think about globalization is to take a hand in shaping it.
